Bookkeeping

Good bookkeeping is the foundation everything else is built on — tax returns, loan applications, business decisions. When the books are current and accurate, tax time is straightforward and you always know where your business stands. When they're not, everything costs more and takes longer.

Klabo, Brown & Co., LLC provides ongoing bookkeeping services to small businesses, farms and organizations in Aberdeen and Brown County. Many of our clients came to us after a year or two of falling behind on their own books. There's no judgment here — just a system to get you caught up and keep you there.

What's Included

We Work With Your System or Ours

Some clients already keep records in accounting software and just need professional oversight. Others want us to handle the books entirely. Some show up with receipts in folders and start fresh with a system that actually fits their business. All three are fine. We'll recommend the simplest setup that does the job — and if you're a farm operation, we know how to structure accounts around livestock, grain and equipment. See our farm and agriculture accounting page for more.

Who This Is For

Our bookkeeping clients are small: shops on Main Street, contractors, service businesses, nonprofits and family farms. If you're a business owner doing your own books at midnight after a full day of work, this service exists for you.

What It Costs

Bookkeeping fees depend on transaction volume, the state of your current records and how much of the work we take on. After we review your situation we provide a written quote, and the scope is confirmed in an engagement letter before any work begins. Most clients find that professional bookkeeping pays for itself in a faster, cheaper tax return and fewer expensive mistakes.

Common Questions

I'm a year or more behind on my books. Can you help?

Yes. Catch-up work is one of the most common starting points with new bookkeeping clients. We'll agree on a plan to bring the records current, then move to a regular monthly routine.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

Usually not. If your current setup works, we'll work with it. If it's becoming a problem — or if there's no system at all — we'll suggest something simple and appropriate for a business your size.

Can you also do my payroll?

Yes. Many bookkeeping clients add payroll processing as they grow. Having the books and payroll in one office keeps everything consistent.
